Since it conception, CAPE has been a leader in education by designing and piloting programs that are later implemented by the province in various forms. These programs include:
- Class Size Initiative ~ CAPE has always been below the mandated class size maximums because of its capped class sizes. The small class sizes are a vital part of the CAPE charter.
- Literacy Strategy ~ CAPE's early literacy strategy started in 1995 and has continued since. We believe early literacy is a key element to student success.
- Mandatory Fitness ~ Prior to the implementation of Daily Physical Acitivity, or DPA, CAPE required all students to have mandatory fitness time each day.
- Intensive Study Hall ~ This program provides specific students with the assistance they require in language and/or mathematics. This is done through a small group environment.
- Anti-bullying ~ Through the first AISI cycle, introduced in 2002, CAPE addressed the need for students to be aware of bullying behaviors and how to deal with them. This instruction program has continued with students learning awareness, prevention and positive assertiveness.
- Mandatory Second Languages ~ CAPE exposes students in Kindergarten through grade 3 to 2 second languages; French and Spanish. Students in grades 4 through 8 choose their focal language. CAPE's second language program began in 1994, prior to Alberta RD making French mandatory for all students in grade 4 - 9.
- Citizenry Program ~ CAPE encourages students to act as contributing citizens through Citizenry Projects since 1994.
- Multiculturalism Program ~ Since 1994, students have been exposed to concepts that promote awareness and appreciation of other cultures. This has helped reduce racism.
- Global Education ~ Projects that started in 1994 have taught students about comparative political systems, comparative religions, multiculturalism and environmental issues.
- Nutrition Program ~ Projects since 2005 have focused on teaching students about the need for balance between healthy eating, exercise and rest. The restriction of junk foods and offering of nutritious drinks at lunch has further encouraged students to make healthy choices to fuel their bodies to learn.
- Community Partnerships ~ CAPE's foundation began with community input and has continued to have strong community ties. By extensively accessing our community, CAPE believes our students are benefiting from the knowledge of many. This also helps students see how they can become a beneficial part of our community.
